If you witness an overdose:

  • Call 911 immediately
  • Administer naloxone (Narcan) if available, it is safe to use and can reverse an opioid overdose
  • Perform rescue breathing if the person is not breathing
  • Stay with the person until emergency services arrive

Minnesota’s Good Samaritan Law (Minn. Stat. § 604A.04) provides legal protection for people who call 911 to report an overdose in good faith. You will not be prosecuted for possession of a controlled substance if you call for help.

Naloxone is a medication that can reverse an opioid overdose. In Minnesota, naloxone is available without a prescription at many pharmacies. It is also available through harm reduction programs and some community health organizations.

If you are a patient at Alliance Wellness Clinic, ask your provider or nurse about naloxone, we can provide guidance on access and use.

If you are not in crisis but are ready to take the first step toward treatment, Alliance Wellness Clinic is here. We offer same-day assessments whenever possible.
